Blueprint Cottage Doors manufacture these Ledged Doors from selected planks of Solid White Oak. We have three grades of door available Rustic, Character or Prime Grade.
Rustic Grade
By far the most popular grade due to the natural beauty of the timber on show. Rustic Grade allows the following natural character within the planks that form the door:
- Rough spots
- Large knots
- Some knots may contain splits
- Small shakes in the timber
- Worm track
- Natural timber grain character.
Our Rustic grade does not allow holes through the door or natural defect that will affect its structural strength.
Character Grade
This grade of wood is a step up from out Rustic Door; the specification allows for smaller knots and less natural defect in the planks. Character Grade allows the following natural character within the planks that form the door:
- Small knots
- Small shakes in the timber
- Natural timber grain character.
Prime Grade
Prime Grade woods allows very little natural character within the planks that form the door.
- Plank colour variation
- Small knots up to 5mm
- Natural timber grain character.
There are also two types of decorative profile that you can choose from which help prevent the door from warping:
V-Groove
Below are examples of a v-groove profile which are used in between the Oak panels to connect them together.
Bead And Butt
Below are examples of a bead and butt profile which are used in between the Oak panels to connect them together. Unlike v-groove, you’ll notice that the panels are further apart making for a more distinct design.
Each size door has a set number of different sized planks, this allows you to buy doors at different times knowing that they will look identical in terms of plank size:
Door Measurement | Plank Total | Individual Plank Measurements |
---|---|---|
78″ x 24″ (1981mm x 610mm) | 4 x 20mm Thick | All 152mm |
78″ x 27″ (1981mm x 686mm) | 5 x 20mm Thick | All 136mm |
78″ x 30″ (1981mm x 762mm) | 5 x 20mm Thick | All 151mm |
78″ x 33″ (1981mm x 838mm) | 6 x 20mm Thick | All 138mm |
Ledges are 148mm x 20mm thick and are fixed by glue and pins. |
Pins are sunk below the surface of the timber so they can be filled and covered before finishing if desired. We can supply these doors with screwed and plugged ledges, this is an additional £18 per door. Please contact us if you require this service.
All doors are supplied with 3 ledges that run to edge of the door. If you require ledges setting in from the edge of the door please contact us and we can arrange. We can also supply different sized ledges or ledges set at different heights, just let us know what you want and we will manufacture your doors to your specification. We may charge for some amendments so please message us before buying.
Doors are manufactured using tongue and groove planks, small gaps are left between each plank to allow the timber to move freely without twisting or bowing. All boards used are kiln dried to a moisture content of approximately 8-10% which is ideal for internal use.
All doors are supplied unfinished ready for you to apply the finish of your choice. It is important to finish your doors as soon as possible. Do not store doors outside in cold or damp areas such are sheds or garages. Doors must be stored flat not stood on ends or edges.
We manufacture doors in our own workshop in Oswestry so we can offer a made to measure service. We understand that these doors are generally used in renovations of older properties and barn conversions which need a more bespoke service. This door really complements the interior design in my hallway. Their customer service was fab; couriers had some trouble finding my house but were in touch right away to confirm directions.
